Something Worth Fighting For: Life Goes On

Surgery days and helpless hearts

My littlest of loves just got taken back to the OR.

We left the house at 4am to get to the hospital by 6. It’s 7:30 now, and they just took him back.

It was a smooth and easy morning. The easy part is the before.

The rest of our day isn’t promised to be as smooth.

He’s getting a few things done on his left leg, muscle and nerve biopsies and whatever else they need, if anything.

He was happy and cooperative all morning. Smiling, happy and easy. The sleepy medicine did its job right before the IV was placed.

Because of their genetic disorder and muscular/respiratory weakness, my kids are all high risk when it comes to anesthesia. The risks for complications are not something we take lightly. I have come to understand my other 2 boys and how their bodies handle the anesthesia…but Atlas has never been under it before.

Phoenix had a really hard time recovering from this particular surgery a few years ago.

I’m nervous. And I miss him.

Seeing your babies being wheeled away from you, knowing where they are going and what is about to happen to them…

It doesn’t ever get easier.
