Something Worth Fighting For: Life Goes On

Five.

Yesterday, Phoenix turned 5 years old.

I don’t usually recycle words, but I do think I said it best yesterday.

To my wild one, the child with more personality than should be allowed to exist in one single body, the most literal and hilarious person I’ve ever met, the child with ZERO filter…and the sweetest boy I know. I have no idea how, but he’s 5 today.
Living life with Phoenix has been THE most wild ride I ever could’ve imagined. He fills up your cup just as fast as he drains it, will give you about 2 million hugs a day, has absolutely no idea what the word “quiet” means, and he’ll drive you nuts faster than you’d ever think possible. He’s the definition of “choose your battles”, because his will is almost as strong as mine.
🙃
He’s a special one. He always has been. He loves fiercly, and if you’re lucky enough to be in his world (because it truly is HIS world), you know what I mean. Every day I get to spend with him is a good one. Well, at least a memorable one.
😂
Happy birthday!!!!!

Usually, I hate birthdays. They hurt my massively introverted tendencies, they bring a lot of grief because we don’t exactly know their life expectancy, and they’re just hard.

But yesterday was probably my favorite birthday. It was the first time I’ve had one kid with a birthday and the other in school. I got to hang out with just Phoenix all day, without his older brother messing with him, and he was just in the best mood. He was so happy and calm and content. It was a simple, low key day and he got everything he asked for, which wasn’t much. He could’ve had anything he wanted for dinner. Anything. He picked corn dogs from the freezer. Because of course he did.
He opened up his gifts from us in the morning, and then his PT and OT gave him gifts when he was done with therapy yesterday afternoon, a Spiderman blanket and a little light up fan. The look on his face face in these pictures is so absolutely Phoenix. He just wants to be happy. And he’s so easy to be made happy. I usually hate birthdays so much. But I didn’t hate this one. And that’s really cool.
