When hope is hard to find, keep looking

If hope is hard to find, keep looking. If you’re searching for a reason why…keep searching.

“The stars are always there but we miss them in the dirt and clouds. We miss them in the storms. Tell them to remember hope. We have hope.”

It can be so easy to forget, and I come back to this quote often.

Things are frequently hidden in the darkness. But they are not gone. It’s our job to remember that, to find them again, and to help others find it again for themselves.

Relationships get stuck in the endless loop of pain and hurt, oftentimes forgetting about what’s there behind the hurt. What there is to fight for, to remember. To love.
I was there once, too. But now we remember. We found each other again, and honestly, it’s probably the best it’s ever been now.

Light is muted and muffled by the darkness. We can’t see past it, we can’t see through it. We forget that it’s even possible. Hope gets left behind, and we stop fighting.

But we often forget that our eyes adjust to the darkness. It may take some time, but if we hang on and keep looking, our eyes will adjust. Maybe we’ll see someone standing there with an outstretched hand, offering to guide us. Maybe we’ll see a doorway we never have before, one that leads us someplace new, someplace safe.

Some of us look for hope, look for solutions…look for numbness, the everything and the nothingness…in the bottomless pit of a never so empty glass.
I’ve been there, too. Shit, I’m still here. It’s hard to climb out of a hole that you keep digging yourself further into. But the answers aren’t there. The better doesn’t exist when you’re too numb to care, too numb to find it.

There is pain beyond the suffering. Even if we can’t see it yet.

That’s what hope is, that’s what love is.
Hanging on, even when it feels so dark, and so impossible.

Just keep going.

“Tell them to look up. Tell them to remember the stars.”
