Sometimes, you have to force self care

Do you ever create your own holidays? Or special day?

This morning, after breakfast, and the kids were asking what we could do today and how I was going to entertain them…

I boldly stated that it was “Special Mommy Day”, and the goal is to “spend all day thinking about how to make mommy feel special because she takes such good care of you”.

It’s only 7:30am right now, so it’s unclear if the holiday will stick.

So far, my husband and 2 older boys are running around the house like ACTUAL maniacs while I have the baby playing on my bed. He’s cute. And quiet. So he’s my favorite to spend lots of time with.

I’m burnt out. That’s no secret. Life is hard and loud and busy. And sometimes…you need to absolutely force a day of self care.

So that’s what I’m doing today. My bed and I are going to hang out today. Coffee, blankets, chocolate and cheese. And babies. Babies are allowed. No one over the age of 14 months though.

These 2 pictures are from Friday at his surgery appointment, but just because everyone should know just how “cute” we are. Obviously. (We were waiting there for like an hour and a half and both got bored and a little delirious.)

It’s not enough to just close my door and try to pretend there isn’t chaos happening around me. My brain needs *actual* quiet. Without the threat of kids or anyone busting in here and crying because one kicked the other one in the face.

No.

I need actual alone time. Something that is like…the most rare thing in the world.

My husband is amazing (usually). And he gets it. Although…he’s still here, and did not remove the noisemakers from my vicinity. Yet.

He just came in and wrote “National Mommy’s Day” on the calendar. I guess it’s legit now.

Glad to know he’s taking my special day very seriously. It’s now a yearly occurrence.

I’ll be sure to prepare them all in advance next year. 😂
